COAL CITY — Police responded to an activated burglary alarm at a Verizon Wireless Store at 435 W. Division St. in Coal City at 5:34 a.m. on Sunday.
An Officer Moran responded to the call and found a crowbar on the ground in front of the store. The front door glass was broken and he found pry marks on the rear door. The Coal City Fire Department and Grundy County deputies responded and searched the area but found no suspect. The only item missing was an iPhone display box.
On the way to the store, Moran saw a blue Dodge Avenger with its hazard lights on parked on the eastbound lane of Route 113. The car appeared to have mechanical and body damage, and was locked and unoccupied. It was seized and is being processed by police.
Video surveillance, evidence and the car are being examined by investigators. The Coal City police say it was an isolated incident and no other business or residences were entered.
