Area roundup: Joliet West volleyball gets past Oswego

Joliet West’s girls volleyball team moved to 2-1 in the Southwest Prairie Conference after pulling out a wild 25-14, 27-29, 25-23 victory at Oswego.

Jenny Koerner had 12 kills, 13 assists, six aces, three blocks and eight digs to lead the Tigers (12-2, 2-1). Natalie Stefanski added 15 assists, 14 digs and five kills, and Brooke Borgra had 16 digs.


Benet Academy 19-25-25, Joliet Catholic 25-17-17: The Angels (12-3, 1-1) were led by Sarah Nahas (25 assists, two blocks), Emily Holbrook (10 kills), Emily Wilson (seven kills), Bella Ray (six kills, three blocks), Sophie Krzysciak (five kills) and Macaire Kelley (nine digs).

Plainfield North 25-25, Romeoville 22-23: Ashley Moore had 15 assists and seven kills for Romeoville, and Alayna Rooks added 11 kills.

Plainfield Central 26-25, Plainfield South 24-16: Jenna Curbis had 14 digs, while Riley Sawin dished out 10 assists and Claire Griffin had a team-high seven kills for South.

Gardner-South Wilmington 25-25, Tri-Point 11-13: Mady Asbridge had 10 assists, five kills and three aces for Gardner (5-2, 2-0). Kaylee Steichen and Carson Halpin had five kills each.

Sandwich 25-25, Seneca 18-20: Alyssa Hauch had five kills and Lexi Greve had four for Seneca (5-8-3, 0-3).


Joliet West 8, Marian Catholic 0: Rodrigo Torres and Ethan Pranckus each scored two goals, Jonathan Espinosa, Javier Gutierrez, Oscar Haro and Anthony Pantoja also scored goals, while Sebastian Mireles and Isaiah Diaz combined for the team’s fifth shutout.

Bolingbrook 2, Plainfield South 0: Cristan Guzman and Keegan Wahlgren each scored a goal and Oscar Leon recorded five saves.

Providence 7, Tinley Park 2: Scottie Slocum had four goals and Silvio Gkizas added three.

Lincoln-Way West 6, Wheaton North 3: West is now 4-4-1, 0-1 in the SouthWest Suburban.

Lyons Township 1, Minooka 0: Carson Heglund had 12 saves for the Indians (3-3-2).


Joliet West Invitational: Joliet Catholic’s Mia Bertino took first in singles in the eight-team invitational held at Joliet West. Sarah Markun and Caitlyn Spreitzer took fourth in doubles.

Lincoln-Way Central 7, Bradley Bourbonnais 0: Emma Rimkunas and Kiana Sikich both blanked their opponents in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Ani Smentek won No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-2. The doubles pairs of Katie Blake/Natalie Spudic (6-3,6-0), Danielle Mikos/Micaela Cesta (6-1, 6-3), Michelle Kaczmarek/Caroline Erdman (6-4,6-4) and Karleen Meding/Lily Malas (6-1,6-1) swept Nos 1-4 doubles for the Knights (6-6, 1-0).

Lincoln-Way West 4, Andrew 3: The Warriors (7-3, 1-0) won the SWSC opener.


Lincoln-Way Central 148, Oswego: The Knights (7-0, 6-0) were led by co-medalists Sean Curran and Ryan Prusek who both shot a 34.

Lemont 150, Tinley Park 182: Raymond Sullivan shot a 35 and Jack Kramer a 36.

Minooka 162, Plainfield East 184, Romeoville 231: Dylan Pfieffer, Nolan King and Luke Petrovic each scored a 38 to co-medal for Minooka. East’s Michael Burke shot a 42 and Austin Otiepka and Daniel Spatz led Romeoville with a 57.


Joliet Twp. 193, Romeoville 198: Maddy Palmer was the low scorer with a 43 and Kaelyn Cronin notched a season low of 49 for Joliet at Prairie Bluff.


Lewis takes 13th: The Flyers took 13th after shooting a 660 at the University of Indianapolis Invitational. Kasey Kane shot a 158 (80-78), good for 40th place.
