Police: Joliet teenager arrested after beating girlfriend, destroying cellphone

JOLIET – A Joliet woman allegedly beat her girlfriend and broke her cellphone after an argument over their breakup, police said.

On Tuesday evening, Monica A. Adams, 19, of the 100 block of Walden Road, got into an argument with her 19-year-old girlfriend at the Star Inn, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said.

The argument at the 2219 W. Jefferson St. motel turned physical when Adams allegedly grabbed her girlfriend’s cellphone and threw it across the room, causing it to break and shatter, Gregory said.

Adams then allegedly pushed her girlfriend down to the floor and began to beat her, Gregory said.

Police officers reportedly were dispatched to the motel to investigate a call of a disturbance. The officers arrived at the room that the two women were staying in, where Adams’ girlfriend alleged that Adams also had choked her, Gregory said.

The girlfriend did not require medical attention, Gregory said.

Adams was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic battery and criminal damage to property. She was booked into the Will County jail Wednesday morning and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
