There was a gas odor near Joliet Junior College's Joliet campus on Thursday morning, according to the school's Twitter account.
It's source is a nearby pipeline company, Kinder Morgan, working on its odorization system, according the the school account.
The smell was explained as Mercaptin, which provides the odor to the natural gas pipeline. It was explained as "not dangerous" and not an issue specific to JJC.
Kinder Morgan is located at 23725 County Farm Road in Joliet, just west of the Middle Rock Run County Forest Preserve and JJC, not far from the intersection of I-55 and I-80.
