Jennifer Ritsema has joined the Joliet Montessori School faculty as the school’s new primary teaching assistant.

Joliet Montessori School announced that Jennifer Ritsema has joined the faculty as the school’s new primary teaching assistant, working with Primary Directress Gosia Wolf.

Head of School Heidi Geiger made the announcement to JMS families on Jan. 4.

Ritsema is a Montessori veteran of more than two decades, starting as a primary assistant with New Beginnings Christian Montessori (now Midwest Christian Montessori Academy) in 1995 and achieving American Montessori Society certification in 1999.

Since then, she has also operated her own primary Montessori program and served as a substitute Montessori teacher while raising her five children.

Ristema takes over for Shawna Robinson, who had stepped up to provide assistance for Wolf’s class in November of last year. Robinson herself became certified as a Montessori paraprofessional in 2017 when she completed a program offered by the Seton Montessori Institute in Clarendon Hills.

Geiger thanked Robinson for her flexibility in taking on the extra role in addition to her work in the school’s administration office.

Ritsema officially began her new role on Jan. 8.
