Letter: Maybe the helmets are a concussion issue

To the Editor:

We hear a lot of discussion about football players getting concussions due to smashing helmets together. My thinking is that this creates an intense shock to the player’s brain.

My theory is this. Go back to a softer outer shell of the helmet. It’s like hitting bowling balls together compared to cotton balls.

Remember the old-time leather helmets? The player may wind up with a headache but no brain injury.

I’m not a doctor, but I think my idea may have some merit.
