For the past 10 years, the Italian Americans and Friends Committee at Carillon Lakes in Crest Hill has been helping to replenish the food pantry at Crest Hill Family Outreach, 2405 Essington Road, No. 59, in Joliet. The latest community-wide food drive on Nov. 13 netted more than 100 large boxes of nonperishable food.[]

• Food Basket Delivery – Senior Services of Will County, in conjunction of Northern Illinois Food Bank, will start a monthly delivery of food baskets to multigenerational families in which grandchildren are being raised by grandparents. Seniors must be age 60 or older. Children must be younger than 18 unless they are disabled. Call 815-723-9713.


•"A Cup of Hope: A Garden Tea to Solve Hunger" – March 4, Hotel Arista in Naperville. Gardeners and food bank supporters will gather for a traditional afternoon tea party featuring extensive selection of teas, appetizers, silent auction and raffle prizes. Presentation by Bill Shores of Shores Garden Consulting, who will discuss the farm-to-table movement and designing with edibles.Last year, the event raised more than $56,000, providing more than $448,000 in groceries to help combat childhood hunger across the Food Bank’s 13-county service area of Northern Illinois. • Salvation Army Joliet Food Pantry – Noon to 3 p.m. every Monday. Visitors may only come once a month. A Will County photo ID is required, as well as a piece of mail verifying the address for every family member age 18 or older.
