JOLIET – Two crashes occurred on Interstate 80 – one eastbound and the other west – that caused two people to be hospitalized, Joliet fire officials said.
On Monday morning, paramedics from the Joliet Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash on the Des Plaines river bridge on I-80 eastbound and a four-car crash at I-80 westbound near Larkin Avenue.
On I-80 eastbound, a single vehicle spun out of control and hit a guard rail on the bridge, said Joliet Fire Capt. Fred Offermann. The injured driver was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center.
On I-80 westbound, a crash involving four passenger vehicles caused two minivans to end up in a center ditch, Offermann said. One person was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center while the others were treated on the scene, he said.
One car landed on its side and the driver needed to be extricated.
