Learn about the USDA Forest Service’s Midewin Interagency Hotshot Crew on Feb. 15

WILMINGTON – The public is invited to a free program hosted by the USDA Forest Service’s Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie from 7 to 8 p.m. Feb. 15, Squad Leader Mike Bittner will talk about the Midewin Interagency Hotshot Crew.

The program will be held at the Midewin Welcome Center, 30239 S. State Rt. 53 in Wilmington.

The primary duty of the Midewin Interagency Hotshot Crew is the suppression of wildland fires. As a national resource, the crew travels throughout the U.S. to assist with wildfires and other emergencies, such as hurricanes, flooding, and other natural disasters.

The Midewin IHC also assists with prescribed fires throughout the Eastern United States, including at Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with light refreshments provided by the Midewin Alliance.
