Independent, new party or sanitary district candidates can start getting signatures

JOLIET - The Will County Clerk's office announced that individuals interested in running for office as an independent, new party or sanitary district trustee candidate in the general election can now pick up their petition packets and begin circulating them for signatures.

Those interested can print out petitions online at thewillcountyclerk.com and click the Petition Packets quick link. Petition packets are also available at the Will County Clerk's office, located at 302 N. Chicago St. in Joliet. A petition packet sign out list, from in-person requests, will be available and posted on the clerk's website at 3:30 p.m. each business day.

Local offices that will be elected to four-year terms are the Will County Clerk, Treasurer, Sheriff and Regional Superintendent of Schools. County Board members that will be elected for a four-year term are Districts 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 11. Sanitary District East Joliet (three full trustee positions) and Lockport Heights (two full trustee positions) will be elected for a four-year term.

For those collecting signatures, the individual must be a registered voter, signatures must be signed and not printed, and voters can only sign petitions within the district and/or precinct where they reside.

The general election will be Nov. 6, 2018.
