JOLIET –A Joliet man was arrested twice for attacking the same man at Los Diaz Bar & Liquors, police said.

About 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Juan A. Martinez, 38, of the 600 block of Abe Street came into the bar at 674 Meeker Ave. and picked a fight with a 27-year-old man, Joliet Deputy Police Chief Ed Gregory said in an email.

Martinez pushed the man in the chest and struck him once in the face, Gregory said.

Other patrons held Martinez down until police arrived to arrest him on a charge of battery, Gregory said. Martinez was released on his own recognizance.

Undeterred by one arrest, Martinez allegedly came back to the bar almost two hours later and quarreled with the same man he fought earlier, police said. This time, the man was struck twice in the face after being pushed by Martinez, Gregory said. Other patrons once again pulled Martinez away from the man, he said.

Martinez was arrested but he refused to be cooperative throughout the booking process. He was then taken to the Will County jail.

Martinez has been charged with aggravated battery, violation of a bail bond and obstruction of justice.

Martinez was jailed last September on drug charges involving cocaine- and fentanyl-like substances. Those charges still are pending in court.
