JOLIET – The Joliet Park District hopes to have a new band announced when it sets a refund policy for people who bought tickets for Huey Lewis and the News at the Taste of Joliet.

Huey Lewis on Friday announced that he would cancel all performances for the remainder of the year after losing much of his hearing.

The band was scheduled to be the headline act on June 22, the first night of Taste of Joliet at Memorial Stadium.

The park district staff is developing a refund policy at the same time that it works on a contract for a band to replace Huey Lewis and the News, Executive Director Tom Carstens said.

The refund policy could be ready by Wednesday, he said.

“It’s our hope to announce a band shortly, so people can decide [if they want a refund] after that,” Carstens said.

In a statement issued Friday, Huey Lewis said he lost most of his hearing before a show in Dallas about two and a half months ago.

“Although I can still hear a little, one on one and on the phone, I can’t hear music well enough to sing,” Lewis said.

Park officials said when they announced Huey Lewis in January that it was one of the bands heavily requested by Tastegoers.

While the cancellation was a disappointment, Taste enthusiasm may have been boosted over the weekend when the headline act for Saturday – The Brothers Osborne – won Vocal Duo of the Year at the Academy of Country Music awards for a second consecutive year.

John and T.J. Osborne also received Video of the Year for the song “It Ain’t My Fault.”
