While the Northern Illinois Food Bank’s South Suburban Center in Joliet hands over food, Amazon associates will hand over expertise and a $10,000 check.

By sharing their knowledge, Amazon associates will “help the food bank streamline operations and maximize valuable resources,” according to a news release.

Amazon associates will help pack and sort food donations at
10 a.m. Tuesday at the food bank, located at 171 S. Larkin Ave., to support its contribution to the community. Once the volunteering finishes, Amazon associates will present the check.

The event is part of Amazon’s Community Kaizen program, which aims to provide local food banks with “intelligence and innovation.”

Northern Illinois Food Bank has 800 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and youth and senior centers in the area. The South Suburban Center opened May 4.
