Crest Hill veterinary student honored

Leslie Juarez-Resendiz, who recently completed her first year of veterinary education, was honored at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine’s annual awards program in May.

Juarez-Resendiz is the daughter of Juan Juarez and Eva Resendiz of Crest Hill.

Juarez-Resendiz was a recipient of the Lily Ireland Scholarship for Recruitment, awarded to students with good academic merit who specialize in urban pet care.

Juarez-Resendiz attended the University of Saint Francis in Joliet, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2017.

As an undergraduate, Juarez-Resendiz was involved in the Duns Scotus Honors Program, Unidos Vamos Alcanzar, the Schmitt Scholars Program and the Biology Fellows Program.

The College of Veterinary Medicine is one of only 30 veterinary schools in the U.S. The veterinary medicine curriculum is a four-year program leading to a doctoral degree.
