1 teen wounded, 1 jailed after gun attack in Joliet

One teen shot another in the belly last week, police said.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting on Water Street between Wallace and Jefferson streets about 10 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

The officers found an 18-year-old on the ground next to a silver Ford Explorer, Joliet police Sgt. Darrell Gavin said in an email.

The teen, Gavin said, had been shot in the abdomen. Fire department paramedics took the wounded teen to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

“There were several other individuals at the scene when officers arrived,” Gavin said. “These individuals were transported to the station for investigative purposes.”

After the ensuing investigation, officers determined the shooter was a 17-year-old.

This teen was charged with the shooting and with possessing a weapon without an owner’s identification and booked into River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
