New Lenox had 11 car burglaries between July 31 and Sunday, police said.
The cases remain under investigation by the New Lenox police. The items stolen from the cars include an iPod, phone charger, cash, keys, a video game system, purses, $1,000 worth of fishing gear, sunglasses, clothes and credit cards.
The burglaries occurred at the following locations:
• 1200 block of Grandview Drive.
• 600 block of Columbia Drive
• 1900 block of Regent Street
• 900 block of E. Bentley Road
• 1600 block of Regan Road
• 1800 block of Edmonds Avenue
• 1700 block of London Road
• 100 block of Regan Road
In a few of the cases, the suspects were seen running off to a waiting getaway car.
On Aug. 4, a victim said someone unlocked a car in their driveway and stole $1,000 worth of fishing gear and a neighbor saw the same suspect run to a waiting car.
New Lenox Deputy Police Chief Louis Alessandrini has said the crooks tend to be youths who randomly check to see if a car is unlocked so they can rummage for loose change or wallets, and roving crews who target the south suburbs.
