The pedestrian killed early Sunday morning on Interstate 80 has been identified.

The Illinois State Police identified the man as James D. Oostdyk.

Oostdyk, 69, last resided at Senior Solstice Living at Joliet on Essington Road, police said.

Before the fatal crash, Oostdyk last was seen alive Saturday morning in the area of Jackson and Scott streets in downtown Joliet, police said.

About 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a westbound 2017 Chrysler Town and Country struck Oostdyk, when he was walking west of Larkin Avenue, police said.

The state police said it received tips and confirmed Oostdyk’s identity within three hours of The
Herald-News publishing his photograph.
