Police said that a Kankakee man on parole allegedly got on top of a woman he was dating while she was lying on the ground and punched her head and body multiple times.

About 2 a.m. Thursday, Kenneth D. Love, 30, of the 100 block of North Greenwood Avenue was taken to the Will County jail after he was arrested after the alleged attack. Love was being held on a $500,000 bond.

Officers were sent to Cass and Collin streets after receiving a complaint that multiple people were fighting, Joliet police Sgt. Darrell Gavin said in an email.

When the officers arrived, they reportedly saw Love on top of a woman who was lying on the ground and balled up. Love allegedly was punching the woman’s head and body multiple times with closed fists.

Officers pulled Love off the woman and separated them, Gavin said. The woman was bleeding from her mouth, had a scratch on her left cheek and a scratch on the back of her left arm, he said, and the officers were told by the woman that she and Love had been dating for the past year.

The woman became uncooperative and wanted to leave after officers tried to gather information, Gavin said. Love was arrested and charged with domestic battery based on the officer’s observations and statements from the woman, he said.

The woman refused medical attention, Gavin said.

Love has been on parole since May 24. He had been sentenced to five years in prison for unlawful restraint.

Love also had served time in prison for domestic battery.
