Coroner IDs New Lenox man killed in crash

Manhattan truck driver released from scene, pending investigation

The Will County Coroner’s Office has identified the 49-year-old New Lenox man killed in a car crash Tuesday in Manhattan as James E. Harbin Jr.

Manhattan police and fire personnel responded just after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday to a reported crash near the intersection of Cedar and Baker roads, according to a news release from Manhattan police.

When first responders arrived, they found the pickup truck Harbin had been driving had collided with a semitrailer on Cedar Road, just south of Baker Road. Harbin was pronounced dead at
7:30 a.m.

The truck driver, Gary Hosey, 55, of Manhattan was not injured in the incident, police said. Hosey was released Tuesday, pending further investigation. The area around the intersection was closed for several hours after the crash. It reopened shortly before noon, police said.

The Will County Sheriff’s Police Major Accident Team and Manhattan police are investigating the crash. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Mike Holford at 815-478-4408.

An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
