A woman and her boyfriend allegedly were involved in a shooting at the Saloon 2 bar in Joliet after a fight broke out between a group of people, police said.

Josefina Black, 48, and her boyfriend, Thurmond L. Lurry, 42, both of Joliet, were arrested on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the incident. Lurry was hospitalized for injuries he suffered during a fight at the bar.

Three men and one woman got into a fight at Saloon 2 at 1827 Washington St. in Joliet Township, and several other patrons jumped in and began fighting with them, Kathy Hoffmeyer, spokeswoman for the Will County Sheriff’s Office, said in an email.

The three men and woman were kicked out of the bar as a result.

A short time later, Black, who was involved in the fight, shot at the bar in retaliation for being jumped and beaten by other patrons, Hoffmeyer said. Lurry allegedly was driving her car during the shooting.

When the shooting occurred, the bartender and four other patrons took cover in a back room until deputies arrived at the scene, Hoffmeyer said.

Three bullet holes were observed by the deputies in the building near the west side entrance, and a glass popcorn machine was shattered. The bartender suffered small cuts and lacerations because of the flying glass.

The bartender and patrons refused medical treatment, Hoffmeyer said.

Black made statements to deputies that incriminated herself regarding shooting at the bar, police said.
