LocalLit is newsletter that connects local authors with local readers. Each week a new short story by a local author – or a review of a book written by a local author – is sent directly to subscribers email.
Blevins was featured in a 2018 Herald-News story when he received an honorable mention at a juried photography exhibit hosted by Gallery Seven.
Next week's short story is by Maureen Blevins of New Lenox. Recently Blevins spoke via email with Herald-News features editor Denise M. Baran-Unland.
Baran-Unland: Tell us a bit about your writing background.
Blevins: I’ve dabbled at writing since I was in high school and have been published a number of times in a variety of places. To date, my published pieces have been personal essays, travel pieces, and some journalistic type interviews. This will be my first published bit of fiction.
Baran-Unland: What types of stories do you like to write?
Blevins: I like writing in general. Writing about people is always interesting - some of their stories are fascinating. And I always have fictional scenarios going on in my head.
Baran-Unland: Give a one-line summary about your featured short story.
Blevins: It takes place on a hot summer day in a place not unlike the Joliet area when a tornado strikes.
Baran-Unland: Have you published any books and/or are you working on one now?
Blevins: No book yet, but I am seriously working on a couple of children’s books and a photo book, as my other passion is photography. I have my blog Positively Tuesday, a travel blog, and I edit two publications for a regional classic car club.
Baran-Unland: Where can people find more information about you?
Blevins: Maureenblevins.blogspot.com, MauveOnTheMove.com
