Joliet native and Petty Officer 3rd Class Mike Kremske wanted to join the Navy and travel the world.
Three years into his service, he is aboard one of the Navy’s most advanced amphibious ships at Fleet Activities Sasebo in Japan, patrolling one of the world’s busiest maritime regions as part of the U.S. 7th Fleet.
“It’s a challenge being stationed across the world but worthwhile because it makes you a better person,” said Kremske.
The 2016 Joliet West High School graduate is an air traffic controller abroad the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Wasp. He assists the ship with ensuring a safe and expeditious flow of air traffic.
Kremske added that he’s enjoyed being deployed in the area because he’s been able to travel to Singapore, Okinawa, Japan and the Philippines.
