District 202 Foundation, CAPE award scholarships to 22 Plainfield seniors

Twenty-two District 202 graduating seniors got college scholarships in May recognizing their academic achievement and community service from the Plainfield Foundation for Excellence and the CAPE organization.

The Foundation for Excellence Community Service Scholarship is given to graduating seniors based on their involvement and active participation in school and volunteer community activities. This year’s winners each received $1,000.

This year’s recipients were:

Plainfield South High School: Alexa Grundon, Kennedy Mallory

Plainfield North High School: Kaitlyn Robertson, Sarah Lau, Dayanara Rodriguez, Siva Krothapalli, Trina Bhattacharyya, Tithi Bhattacharyya

Plainfield East High School: Zara Bangash, Eva Haque

The Martens Family Science Scholarship awards $2,500 to one student from each of District 202’s traditional high schools who plans to major in a STEM-related science field at an accredited university offering a doctorate degree in their chosen major.

This year’s recipients were:

Plainfield High School – Central Campus: Andrew Wyckoff, who plans to major in mechanical engineering at Marquette University

Plainfield South High School: Anna Janicek, who plans to major in biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Plainfield East High School: Andrea Moncada, who plans to major in mechanical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Plainfield North High School: Nicholas Lowe, who plans to major in chemical engineering at Vanderbilt University

The Chief John Eichelberger Public Safety Scholarship awards $500 to four students from the three high schools in the Plainfield Fire Protection District (Plainfield South High School is in the Joliet Fire Protection District.)

This year’s recipients were:

Plainfield North High School: Timothy Vojensky, Ian Rich and Kaitlyn Robertson

Plainfield East High School: Cassidy Jones 

The CAPE organization presents $500 scholarships to one student from each District 202 traditional high school to well-rounded students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community service.

This year’s recipients were:

Plainfield High School – Central Campus: Zachary De Leon

Plainfield South High School: Mireya Ruiz

Plainfield North High School: Gianna Mattio

Plainfield East High School: Eva Haque
