Two men, including one from Plainfield, were arrested Saturday in Chicago for allegedly scaling a skyscraper in a construction site in the city’s downtown area.

About 7 p.m., witnesses saw Danial Pierce, 28, of Plainfield and David Gonyea, 28, of Aurora climbing up scaffolding on an elevator shaft of a tower under construction in the
400 block of East Lower Wacker Drive, a spokeswoman from the Chicago Police Department said.

Various media outlets reported the two scaled Vista Tower.

When police arrived, the men climbed down and were arrested without incident.

According to the CPD, witnesses said the men had climbed about 72 stories, but when officers arrived, the pair had already climbed down to about 40 stories.

Both Pierce and Gonyea were charged with misdemeanor reckless misconduct and criminal trespassing, according to the CPD.

According to Will County court records, Pierce has also faced multiple other traffic-related charges and a drug possession charge going back as late as 2013.

He also was listed as having an Aurora address in the 2900 block of Bar Harbour Road.

Gonyea also has faced multiple previous traffic-related charges from earlier this year, according to Will County court records.
