A 70-year-old Channahon man died and a 19-year-old woman was injured Thursday after the Chevy Camaro they were traveling in left the roadway, struck a tree and snapped a utility pole in half.
Will County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 8:15 p.m. to the 24000 block of West Canal Road in Channahon. Charles D. Hiller, the car’s driver, was unresponsive when emergency crews arrived. He was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m., according to the coroner’s office. The woman was removed from the front passenger seat and taken to Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center. She suffered a hip fracture, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
Police found the car likely was traveling east on Canal when it drove through a ditch and struck the objects. An autopsy was scheduled Friday.
