Fire crews spent about 11 hours over the weekend putting out a two-building fire just off Interstate 80.
Crews received a call about 4:30 p.m. Saturday about a structure fire in the 20600 block of Amherst Court in Joliet, according to a news release from the New Lenox Fire Protection District. One of the buildings was a complete loss and the other had significant damage.
The crews were out until about 3:30 a.m. Sunday putting out hot spots, NLFPD spokeswoman Marisa Schrieber said. The blaze also shut down I-80 in both directions in the area until 9 p.m. Saturday, according to Illinois State Police officials.
The structures were multiuse buildings belonging to MPG Industries, which makes custom tools with special chemicals. No one was injured in the incident, and Schrieber said she did not know the total cost of the damage. The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating.
