An unknown person reportedly robbed and threatened to shoot two women while they were at Elmhurst Cemetery in Joliet Township last month.
Will County Sheriff’s deputies spoke to two 20-year-old women who said they attended a remembrance ceremony about 9 p.m. July 28. When the ceremony was over, the two stayed to talk, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.
An unknown man allegedly approached one of the women from behind and held an object, which she believed was most likely a firearm, to her back, threatening to shoot her. The woman had her keys, which included her key fob, in her hand. The suspect grabbed them, Hoffmeyer said. He proceeded to run into nearby woods. Hoffmeyer said the women were not injured, and the subject did not steal the woman’s car. The man reportedly was about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a medium build. The woman said he was wearing a mask. Will County Sheriff’s deputies searched the cemetery for the suspect but were unable to find anyone.
