A 58-year-old man was rescued from a house fire on Agnes Avenue in Joliet, a fire department official said.
About 8:30 p.m. Monday, firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1200 block of Agnes, Deputy Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said. A neighbor reported smoke coming from the home and called 911, he said.
Firefighters arrived and forced the front door open, Blaskey said. As firefighters were locating the fire, they conducted a search of the home, which led them to a 58-year-old man on the first floor, he said.
The man was removed from the home and was determined to be unconscious with shallow breathing, Blaskey said. He was treated and intubated, Blaskey said, and taken to Amita Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Blaskey said the cause of the fire is “undetermined at this time but the investigation is ongoing.”
