All lanes of Interstate 55 near Route 126 were closed Monday morning after a driver was seriously injured in a crash.
Illinois State Police responded about 8:15 a.m. Monday to northbound I-55, just north of Route 126, for a reported crash, state police spokeswoman Beth Hundsdorfer said. A single vehicle was traveling north on the highway when it lost control, drove off the road and traveled into the right ditch. The car rolled multiple times before coming to rest in the ditch.
The driver, Brian Egizio, 53, of Joliet, suffered serious injuries to his head, and fire crews from Plainfield and Bolingbrook extricated him from his vehicle, Hundsdorfer said. All lanes of I-55 were shut down for about 10 minutes while a medical helicopter arrived to transport Egizio. He was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Hundsdorfer said.
Troopers also responded to a serious crash Monday in Manhattan, Master Sgt. DeAnn Falat said.
