Joliet police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with a lost toddler found wandering around the Reedswood neighborhood Sunday.
Nicholas D. Robinson of Joliet faces charges of endangering the life of a child and possession of a controlled substance related to the incident, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said.
Police responded about 1:15 p.m. Sunday to the 400 block of Reed Street in Joliet, after a neighbor found a young girl without any adult supervision. A post on the Joliet Police Department’s Facebook page Sunday said the girl was 2 to 3 years old and was wearing a purple shirt, purple sparkly pajama pants and a diaper. The toddler was unable to tell police any identifying information. In addition to the Facebook post seeking the public’s help, police also went door to door in an effort to locate her parents, Botzum said.
Her father, Robinson, was found several houses down, and officers determined the girl had likely left her home through an unlocked door after he fell asleep. Police found what they believe to be cocaine on Robinson, and he was arrested and taken to the Will County jail, Botzum said. The girl and her sister were returned to the custody of their mother, who is separated from Robinson. Robinson had custody of the children this weekend, Botzum said.
