Prep roundup: Lincoln-Way Central boys golf captures regional title

Led by a spectacular round from Sean Curran, Lincoln-Way Central’s boys golf captured the team title at the Class 3A Homewood-Flossmoor Regional at Balmoral Woods Country Club.

Curran fired a 72 and teammate Juney Bai shot a 76 to help the Knights post a 319 score, four shots better than runner-up Lockport.

Ben Sluzas led Lockport with a round of 73, while Brody McCarthy was the next-best Porter with a round of 82.

Although Lincoln-Way West did not qualify as a team they still managed to qualify five individuals to Monday’s Pekin Sectional at Lick Creek Golf Course. Those who qualified are Jason Lange, Ethan Healy, Aiden Healy, Zack Phelps and Glenn Jackson.

Lincoln-Way East also had three golfers advance as Matt Kelley, Dylan Drogemuller and Alex Goetsch met the standard for qualification.

Class 2A Lemont Regional: Providence dominated the event at Cog Hill to punch their ticket to sectionals with a team score of 314.

Lemont (338) and Joliet Catholic (348) also advanced as teams to Monday’s Hinsdale South Sectional at Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport.

Davis Billows took medalist honors with a round of 74. Teammate Drew Brasky wasn’t far behind, carding a 77.

Lemont’s top effort came from Paulius Malcius, who shot an 80.

Class 2A Sandwich Regional: Morris tied for fourth place and was unable to advance as a team, but individuals Eli Davy (78), Matt Lawton (85) and Nathan Hock (86) will be moving on to play in Monday’s sectional at Whisper Creek Golf Course in Huntley.

Class 1A Dwight Regional: Seneca took fifth and Dwight finished eighth at Dwight Country Club.

Dwight’s Mason Tjelle shot an 80 to lead local individuals, while Seneca’s top performances came from Brett Yegge, with an 81, and Holden Flynn who fired an 84. All three of those golfers advanced to Monday’s El-Paso Gridley Sectional.

Class 1A Watseka Regional: Peotone finished second to advance to Monday’s El Paso-Gridley Sectional. The Blue Devils score of 361 was good enough to to advance.

Beecher won the team title with a score of 347.

Connor Janik finished sixth individually for Peotone with a round of 83.
