Area roundup: Minooka volleyball grinds out win over West Aurora

Never let it be said the Minooka girls volleyball team isn’t willing to put in extra effort if the match requires it.

The Indians had to go to a decisive third set on Tuesday but prevailed in a 25-18, 17-25, 25-19 victory.

The win lifted Minooka to a 15-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Southwest Prairie Conference.

It was a balanced attack for the Indians. Zoey Seput provided 32 assists and 11 digs, while Heidi Bonde led the offense at the net with 12 kills. Desiree Anderson provided eight kills and nine digs, while Mia Alessio contributed 16 digs.

Andrew def. Lincoln-Way Central, 25-21, 25-19: The Knights couldn’t get the momentum in a SouthWest Suburban Conference loss to the T-Bolts.

Jackie Kulinski had eight kills for the Knights, while Katie Barry and Layne Stevens each connected for six kills.

Carmel def. Joliet Catholic, 25-19, 16-25, 25-14: The Angels came up short in a hard-fought East Suburban Catholic Conference matchup after dropping the third set.

Bella Ray had 10 kills and eight block kills to lead the JCA attack, while Erin O’Grady provided 18 digs and eight service points, which included two aces.

Lockport def. Lincoln-Way East, 25-23, 26-24: The Porters improved to 18-8 on the season with a two-set win against the Griffins in a SouthWest Suburban Conference win.

Taylor Morgan had eight kills, Leena Ajibola provided 3.5 blocks and Doville Gorys had 13 assists for the Porters.

Herscher def. Peotone, 25-16, 25-22: The Blue Devlis couldn’t hang with a strong Tiger’s team in an Illinois Central Eight Conference loss.

McKenna Evans had 13 assists for the Blue Devils.

Homewood-Flossmoor def. Bolingbrook, 25-17, 25-16: The Raiders came up on the short end of this SouthWest Suburban Conference matchup.

Joliet West def. Yorkville, 25-15, 25-19: The Tigers were sharp as they claimed a comfortable victory over the Foxes in a Southwest Prairie Conference matchup.

Wilmington def. Lisle, 25-17, 25-20: The Wildcats worked their way to an Illinois Central Eight Conference victory.

Manteno def. Reed-Custer, 25-15, 25-4: The Comets couldn’t gain any momentum as they dropped an Illinois Central Eight matchup.

Plainfield North def. Plainfield South, 25-10, 25-7: The Tigers rolled to a Southwest Prairie Conference victory.

Coal City def. Streator, 25-15, 25-21: The Coalers picked up a Illinois Central Eight Conference win.

BOYS SOCCER

Romeoville 5, Minooka 4: The Spartans picked up a wild double-overtime win against the Indians in a Southwest Prairie Conference matchup.

Carmel 4, Joliet Catholic 0: The Hilltoppers suffered from a lack of offense and dropped to 7-9-3 overall and 3-6 in East Suburban Catholic Conference after the loss.

Herscher 7, Wilmington 0: The Wildcats were competitive in the Illinois Central Eight matchup in the first half, but gave up five unanswered goals after halftime in the loss.

Plainfield Central 2, Joliet Central 1: The Wildcats edged out the Steelmen in a SouthWest Prairie Conference matchup.

Oswego 4, Plainfield South 2: The Cougars couldn’t match the output of the Panthers in a Southwest Prairie clash.

MEN’S GOLF

Lewis takes 13th at Midwest Invitational: The Flyers finished 13th at the Midwest Regional at Fox Run Golf Club in Eureka, Missouri.

The tournament was a three-round event, where Lewis posted a team score of 934.

Trey Tussey turned in the best individual effort for the Flyers as he tied for 12th in the event with a score of 220 over the three rounds.

WOMEN’S GOLF

Lewis takes ninth at William Beall Classic: The Flyers posted a score of 960 over the two-day, three-round event.

Kasey Kane tied for 36th with a three-round showing of 238.

After shooting an 87 in the opening round, Kane followed up with a solid round of 79 and finished with a flourish with a round of 72.
