One person was critically injured, and a roadway was closed near Louis Joliet Mall after a crash Sunday morning.
Joliet police responded about 7:20 a.m. Sunday to Plainfield Road and Hennepin Drive for a reported crash with injuries, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said.
A vehicle traveling east on Plainfield Road ignored the red light at Voyager Lane and then at Hennepin, Botzum said.
After it drove through Hennepin, it rear-ended another vehicle that was turning west onto Plainfield Road from Hennepin.
The driver who had disobeyed the traffic signals then struck a pole, Botzum said. That person was transferred to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet and later to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood; the individual, who police did not identify, was listed in critical condition.
There were no other injuries reported.
While the Joliet police Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident, portions of Plainfield Road were closed. The roadway reopened about 1:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a post on the police department’s Facebook page.
