State Rep. Margo McDermed announced that for a third straight year, her office will hold a holiday diaper drive to benefit young mothers and families.
Donations will benefit Journey, a local nonprofit that helps struggling young women, according to a news release.
The monthlong holiday drive will from run this week until December 18.
Diapers and other items can be dropped off at McDermed’s district office at 11032 W. Lincoln Highway in Frankfort.
McDermed’s office can also receive donations via direct deliveries from companies such as Amazon.
“In this season of giving, I’m asking our community to share in their good fortune and help out families that are struggling and their children that are our most vulnerable,” McDermed, R-Mokena, said in the release. “We’re collecting diapers, baby wipes and diaper rash cream.”
Disposable diapers cost between $70 and $80 a month, and there are more than 5 million children under age 3 who live in poverty or with poor families, according to the National Diaper Bank Network.
