A 25-year-old man was charged with attempted residential burglary after he allegedly tried to break into a woman’s house on Reed Street in Joliet, police said.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, Edgar Luvianos of the 600 block of Reed Street was arrested and booked into the Will County jail in connection with the incident.

Officers responded to the 500 block of South Reed Street after receiving a report of a suspicious circumstance, Joliet police Sgt. Christopher Botzum said. A witness allegedly saw Luvianos trying to break into a house on that street, he said.

Luvianos allegedly removed a screen from a window and tried to open the window, he said.

When Luvianos was unable to open the window, Botzum said, he then tried to open a sliding door with no success.

When officers arrived on the scene, Luvianos allegedly took off running, Botzum said. The officers pursued Luvianos and took him into custody, he said.

Luvianos is being held at the Will County jail on a $75,000 bond as of Tuesday afternoon, jail records show. A judge ordered Luvianos to have no contact with a woman who lives at the home he allegedly tried to enter, court records show.

In 2015, Luvianos was arrested after two employees of the former Boz Hot Dogs on Chicago Street allegedly saw him exposing himself in the restaurant parking lot, police said.

Prosecutors dropped a charge of public indecency against him in 2017, court records show.
