Gone are plans for a lacrosse court. Instead, the rec center will have two basketball courts, which, Gulas said, will be some of the more popular features.
Also added were an indoor walking track and space for a day care center – both requested at community meetings held during the course of the planning.
Community meeting rooms were added, and the fitness center was downsized.
"There was not a whole lot of demand for fitness," Gulas said. "We had a bigger fitness area, but we scaled it down because that's not what people were asking for."
The building also was designed to be adaptable, so the fitness center can be expanded if it proves to be more popular than it appears.
All that remains now is to start construction.
"We're excited," Carstens said. "[Saturday] is going to be a beautiful day, and we've got a lot of people coming."
