Letter: United we stand

To the Editor:

I am sure many have heard the phrase, "United we stand, divided we fall." The origin came from Aesop, a Greek storyteller born in 620 BC. He wrote stories to teach moral lessons.

Obviously, this is one lesson that has gone on deaf ear, blind eye and malice tongue throughout the centuries. There are many quotes in the Bible stating the same concept:

"And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand." – Mark 3:25.

"Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity." – Psalm 133:1.

"Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." – Ephesians 4:31-32.

Also, Patrick Henry stated, "United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions, which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs."

Abraham Lincoln stated, "A house divided against itself cannot stand."

Martin Luther King, Jr. noted, "We have flown the air like birds and swum the sea like fishes, but have yet to learn the simple act of walking the earth like brothers. ..."

The last quote I came across in "The Unbounded Spirit": "We were all humans until race disconnected us, religion separated us, politics divided us and wealth classified us."

Please think upon these quotes. By being divided, what are we really accomplishing. Look in a mirror and ask yourself,  "Are you happy with what you are saying and doing? What would you do different to create inner peace? The answers lie within.

May you get closer to unity and inner peace and learn to love all human beings as God intended.
