A survivor of sexual assault will share his story at the University of St. Francis in Joliet later this month.
The USF Criminal and Social Justice Department and Office of Institutional Diversity will host guest speaker, writer and researcher Tim Mousseau for a special presentation of “Retaking Our Story: Reframing the Sexual Assault Conversation,” according to a news release.
Mousseau’s talk will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 in San Damiano Hall, located inside the USF Welcome Center/Motherhouse at 420 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The event is free and open to the public.
The presentation tells the story of Mousseau’s experience as a survivor of sexual assault. In his talks, he aims to inspire students to combat sexual violence, redefine masculinity and provoke change, according to his promotional material.
In his address, he leads a “deep and vulnerable” conversation on the delicate topic of sexual assault, drawing from his experiences and countless interactions with others in support groups.
Mousseau will address how communities can better understand the background information needed to facilitate healthy conversations about sexual assault, resources to assist the survivor recovery process, and how the power of personal stories can help prevention.
