Concerts in Will and Grundy Counties help residents prepare for Christ's birth

More than any other time of the year, many people like to prepare for the birth of Christ with Christmas and other inspirational music.

In addition to the two concerts of Russian Liturgical Music the Lewis University choir is offering on Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, three other groups are offering musical events this month, too.

Prairie Singers

This year marks Prairie Singers 32nd Christmas concert series. This year's theme is “Hallelujah, I Believe," and the carols this chamber ensemble will sing reflect that theme.

Concerts will be 6:30 p.m., Dec. 5, Prairie Creek Library, Dwight; 7 p.m. Dec. 7, First Presbyterian Church Morris. 2 p.m. Dec. 8, Trinity Lutheran Church, Ottawa; 7 p.m., Dec. 14, First United Methodist Church, Streator; 2 p.m., Dec. 15, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Seneca.

The Dwight Public Library concert is open to the public and free of charge. The church concerts will have a free will offering.

Michael Russell O’Brien

Immaculate Conception Parish in Braidwood will host a Christmas concert featuring Michael Russell O’Brien 2 p.m. Dec. 8. Doors open at 1:30 pm. This event culminates the parish’s 150th anniversary celebration.

O'Brien was a rock ‘n’ roll recording artist with Oceana Records in the 1990’s and headlined at Disney World. He will share the story of his conversion at Medjugorje in Bosnia. ]

Soup and sandwiches will be available for a free will offering in Father White Hall following the concert. O'Brien will be there to sign autographs and sell his CD’s.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for ages 5 to12. Call Anita Scheer at 815-739-9767 for tickets.

Christmas Musical Benefit Concert

The First United Methodist Church will host a Christmas Musical Benefit Concert the Kuzma Care Cottage and Christian Help Association.

The concert will take place 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at the First United Methodist Church located at 401 E. Kahler Road in Wilmington.

The community choir, Praise Ringers Bell Choir and Island City Brass Quintet will perform both religious and secular arrangements.

An offering will be taken for both organizations. Refreshments will be served following the concert.
