Area roundup: Lincoln-Way Central boys basketball edges TF South

LANSING – Lincoln-Way Central’s boys basketball team captured its seventh win in its past nine games in a 37-35 nonconference victory at TF South. Leading the way for the Knights (13-6) were Sean Curran (16 points) and Nick Tingley (10 points).

Chicago Christian 61, Joliet Catholic Academy 57 (OT): The Hilltoppers (8-11) suffered a tough loss despite
26 points from John Ehrsam.

Coal City 77, Peotone 70: The Coalers big first-half lead led them to victory. Leading Coal City were Austin Pullara (29 points), Jarod Garrelts (19 points) and Jack Bunton (13 points). Nick Scroppo (21 points) and Mason Kibelkis (20 points) led the Blue Devils.

Manteno 69, Wilmington 39: Ben Kreitz had 19 points to lead the Wildcats.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lincoln-Way Central 51, Andrew 21: The Knights (13-11, 2-1) rolled to a SouthWest Suburban Conference Red Division win behind Regan LoConte (14 points, three assists) and Haley Stoklosa (12 points, three blocks).

Bolingbrook 61, Sandburg 31: The Raiders (16-5, 4-0) got a SouthWest Suburban Conference Blue Division win.

Providence Catholic 61, DePaul Prep 25: The Celtics (20-5) were led by Lauren Knight (20 points), Ashley Raymer (14 points) and Megan Duzansky (nine points) in the win.

GIRLS BOWLING

Lockport 1,931, Lincoln-Way Central 1,712: Samantha Traina had the Porters’ high game with a 235, and Abby Nolan led the Knights with a 242 game and 428 series.

WRESTLING

Seneca gets 20th win: The Irish are 20-8 after beating Streator, 42-6, and falling to Prairie Central, 47-30.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Seventeen University of St. Francis football student-athletes have been recognized as Mid-States Football Association All-Academic Team members for the 2019 season. They are Justin Bradley, Brandon Gibbs, Kevin Gorski (Lockport), Josh Holberry, Keagan James, Chris Johnson, Tyler Keene, Eric Maffie, Jacob Pullen (Joliet West), Jonathan Pullen (Joliet West), Bennie Radford, Alex Ruettiger (Joliet Central), Jamal Salaam, Rio Strama (), Scott Walsh, Re’John Williams and Clayton Yde.
