Swimwear and summer often go hand-in-hand. For many, that means a clean up is in order for the hair down there.
If you’re going on a vacation and don’t want the hassle of having to regularly shave your bikini area, consider a Brazilian wax.
“Waxing will give you a couple of weeks before you have any hair growth coming in,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.
Clients should prepare for their Brazilian wax by making sure pubic hair is at least a 1/2-inch long before they come in for the appointment.
“In the same respect your hair cannot be too long,” Malinowski said. “This will cause pain when pulling the strips so make sure to trim up before coming in.”
Eterna estheticians use a gentle wax for less irritation and redness.
The treatments can last about six weeks, depending on how quickly the client’s hair grows.
Make sure to schedule an appointment several days in advance of your vacation in case you experience redness. While there is some discomfort associated with the Brazilian wax, clients find the benefits outweigh the pain of the experience.
Another option for eliminating hair quickly and effectively? Laser hair removal.
“The majority of waxing clients go on to get laser hair removal to get a more permanent removal for the hair,” Malinowski said.
During the procedure, a laser targets the hair follicles and heats them with infrared energy. Patients' skin is rapidly treated and hundreds of hair follicles can be disabled in less than one second. Laser hair removal can treat larger areas such as the back and legs, as well as smaller areas such as the face and underarms. Hair growth takes place in cycles of growth and resting phases. Because only actively growing hair can be removed at each treatment session, several treatment sessions will be necessary. The appointments are generally scheduled every six weeks.
